If you want the truth… I didn’t even know Haiden was going to be doing the podcast this morning. It was the same the first time Haiden did the podcast.

The first time we sat down I am not sure Haiden knew he was doing it but we made the best of an obvious age gap that sees me double Dangerboys age. The gap was noticeable and I am not sure that Haiden had any idea who I was or why he was talking to a screen with a random Australian guy on it. 

In only the space of around 6 or 7 months though, Haiden grew up a lot. Just days after signing his first professional contract though the kid on the other end of our podcast line didn’t seem like so much of a kid. I guess the pressures of having a million followers on YouTube and Instagram make you grow up at a slightly quicker rate than most normal teens. I don’t mean pressures as a negative term either, in fact one of my favourite sayings in life comes from Josh Cachia – “pressure makes diamonds”.

Talking to Haiden for Chapter 188 of the podcast was a rad experience. If you have been following ‘The Deegans’ for almost 10 years, then you have seen Dangerboy the rider grow before your eyes. When it comes to the podcast though, you are hearing a kid turn into a young man. This one really hit different for me. This time around you can really hear the humility and the drive that this young man has to make a real go of his pro career.

He didn’t flinch when asked about the narrative of ‘the spoiled rich kid’ and when asked about his goals his first response was that he really wanted to be a good person.

I have always been a fan but this podcast with Haiden made me really care about his future. While from the outside it might look like being born with a rich and famous father who is committed to helping you become a champion as a major advantage in life is a stroll down easy street (ok, no doubt it is to a point); but I think reality paints a different picture. The cold reality is that Haiden Deegan has always, and will always, have a massive target on his back. He is in the kid of situation that can seem like a no win if you actually take it on board… You win it’s because you got handed everything, and if you lose you are an entitled turd who pissed away your opportunities.

I am sure this won’t be the last time we hear Haiden on the Gypsy Tales Podcast and speaking to him this time around made me excited for the next time we get to sit down and chat.
